Club History
The Pikes Peak Kiwanis Club received its charter on
February 23, 1955. It was chartered by a small group of men, pioneered
by the leadership of Virgil Justice, who obtained enough members for
the club to obtain a charter. Like other service clubs, a chief
function of ours is to raise money through different projects and then
allocate that money to different benevolent activities, charity groups
and other special needs, with our major emphasis being with youth
activities. Our first meeting place was the Alta Vista Hotel, and since
that time, other official meeting places have included the Embers,
Acacia Hotel, Delmonico Restaurant, Hackney House, Ruth's Oven,
Stockyard's Steakhouse, Village Inn, Rocky Mountain Club and
Giuseppe's. As of this writing, Will Perkins is the only remaining
charter member with the club. In the early 70s we had approximately
75-80 members. Our membership is now 40-45 members. We have always met
on Thursdays for a luncheon Meeting.
